Boys & Girls Clubs of America & Massive Rocket Customer Story

Boys & Girls Clubs of America is America’s premier youth development organization. In a typical year, Boys & Girls Clubs serve 3.3 million young people with life-shaping experiences designed to empower youth to lead healthy, productive lives. The Boys & Girls Club includes more than 1,000 independent organizations and the national office, Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Autonomous local organizations serve youth and communities in more than 5,000 Club locations with 65,000 adult professional staff, as well as program volunteers and board members.

For more than 160 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (bgca.org) has enabled young people to achieve great futures as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Clubs are located in cities, towns, public housing and on Native lands throughout the country, and serve military families in BGCA-affiliated Youth Centers on U.S. military installations worldwide. Priority programs emphasize academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles.

The Challenge

Accelerating Customer Engagement

Managing campaigns through Salesforce Marketing Cloud presented a significant challenge. The platform’s setup and operation proved to be cumbersome, demanding constant investment of time and resources. The inherent complexity meant that running campaigns wasn’t a straightforward process. Furthermore, the various Salesforce modules did not seamlessly integrate out of the box, even though all the products originated from Salesforce. As a result, achieving smooth integration required a substantial investment of time, effort, and ongoing support and maintenance.

Seamless Salesforce and Braze Integration

For an organization more than 5,000 Boys & Girls Clubs located across the nation, Salesforce Sales Cloud served as the primary database. The need for data from Braze to fuel campaigns was met by the Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP), which contained crucial information, including internal databases and fundraising data. At the national office of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the data was increasingly complex, with both internal contacts (local Club staff) and external contacts (donors and supporters) housed within a unified database. The challenge lay in ensuring that these contacts remained in sync with Braze, facilitating more effective and coordinated outreach efforts.

Our Approach

Braze & Salesforce connector

After over +100 Braze engagements, the team at Massive Rocket (Certified Level 4 ‘Orbit’ Braze Partner) have consistently witnessed brands (both traditional enterprises undergoing digital transformation and rapidly scaling startups) selecting Braze over Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) to communicate with their customers across channels.

As businesses commonly maintain customer records in both Salesforce and Braze, it has become increasingly important to synchronise these systems in order to maintain accurate customer data. Recognising this need, Massive Rocket’s engineering team has developed a bi-directional connector between the two platforms.

Integrating Salesforce and Braze

In order to streamline the campaign management process, we initiated a comprehensive approach to integrate Salesforce with Braze. The implementation involved several crucial steps, starting with the creation of a real-time integration between Salesforce and Braze to ensure that data flows seamlessly between the two systems.

Our approach included a proactive mechanism for handling any new field additions within Braze, guaranteeing that these updates were mirrored in Salesforce to maintain data consistency. To ensure the reliability and effectiveness of the integration, rigorous unit testing and user acceptance testing were performed. This stringent testing phase was followed by a well-managed production rollout, accompanied by a two-week hypercare period to address any emerging issues promptly.

Historical Data import

A key focus of the project was also placed on supporting the migration of historical data from Salesforce to Braze, ensuring that no valuable information was left behind. The included data cleanup, formatting and de-duplication.
